Wukong was very proud. "I can jump anywhere in the whole world!" he said.
The kind Buddha smiled. "Can you jump out of my hand?" he asked.
Wukong jumped onto Buddha's big hand. Then, whoosh! One great somersault!
He flew far, far away, to the end of the world. There stood five tall pink pillars.
"I'll show I was here," said Wukong. He wrote his name on a pillar: The Great Sage was here!
Whoosh! He flew back to Buddha. But Buddha opened his hand: there was Wukong's writing, on Buddha's finger!
Buddha said gently, "Even the Great Sage still has a lot to learn." He made a soft green mountain, for Wukong to rest under and think.
Every day, little birds sang to him. A kind mountain spirit brought him peaches.
At night, Wukong looked at the stars. "One day, a kind friend will come," he whispered. "And we will go on a great journey."
