The Boat With No Bottom

After a long, long journey, the friends saw a golden mountain. "That is where the Buddha lives," said Tang Sanzang softly.

But first, there was one more river to cross. There was only a thin, wobbly log for a bridge.

Then a kind old boatman came gliding by. "Hop in!" he smiled. "I will take you across."

But the boat had no bottom! "We'll fall in!" cried Bajie. The boatman only laughed.

One by one they stepped in, and they did not fall! They floated, light as feathers, across the water.

On the other side, the Buddha was waiting with a gentle smile. "Welcome," he said. "You have come such a long way."

The Buddha gave them many scrolls of wise words. "Take these home, so everyone can learn to be kind."

Wukong looked at his friends: the monk, Bajie, Sandy and the white horse. "We did it," he said. "Together."

That night, the friends slept on the golden mountain. Tomorrow, they would start the long way home.
