The Secret Birthday
Mama and Baba were back in Bridge City. Granny Hu said, "Saturday is Grandma's birthday!" "A surprise party!" cried Pip.
"A cake! On Saturday!" sang Pip, dancing. Grandma came in. "Tock, what's Pip up to?"
"Cake. Saturday," said Tock. Pip covered its horn. "Shh! Not in front of Tock!" Grandma just grinned.
"I'm the boss!" said Pip. "Tock, don't tell Grandma about the party. DON'T TELL!" "Don't tell. Party," said Tock.
"Tock, what's Pip up to?" "Don't tell. Party." "Shh!" squeaked Pip. "For ME?" Grandma poured tea into the sugar bowl!
"Tock, how can I keep a secret from Grandma?" "Not sure. Ask Grandma." "NOT Grandma!" Dumpling licked her nose.
Pip remembered "my little peach". Tock says whatever it hears! "Secrets are for people I trust! Not for Tock!"
Far from Tock, Pip whispered, "Can you keep a secret?" Mrs Woolly would bring her bell to mend. Chatter would watch.
"Just the cups, Tock!" Grandma peeped in. "Tock, what's Pip up to?" "Cups." "Cups? How boring!"
On Saturday, Mrs Woolly's bell broke. "Chatter, what's Pip up to?" "Mmm! Mmm!" "Good bird, Chatter!" giggled Pip.
"SURPRISE!" Grandma laughed. "I had a secret too. Shh! Not in front of Pip!" Out came a red apron. "For ME?"
The apron hung by Tock's key. "Goodnight, Tock!" said Pip. "Shh," said Tock. "Not in front of Tock." Everyone laughed.
悄悄的生日会
妈妈和爸爸回桥城了。胡奶奶说：“星期六是你奶奶的生日！”皮皮喊：“惊喜生日会！”
“蛋糕！就在星期六！”皮皮跳着喊。奶奶进门问：“嘀嗒，皮皮在忙什么呀？”
嘀嗒说：“蛋糕。星期六。”皮皮捂住嘀嗒的小喇叭：“嘘！别当着嘀嗒说！”奶奶偷偷一笑。
“我说了算！”皮皮说，“嘀嗒，生日会不许告诉奶奶。不许说！”嘀嗒说：“不许告诉。生日会。”
“嘀嗒，皮皮在忙什么呀？”“不许告诉。生日会。”“嘘！”皮皮叫。“给我的？”奶奶把茶倒进糖罐！
“嘀嗒，怎么瞒住奶奶？”“不确定。问奶奶。”“不能问奶奶！”汤圆舔舔她的鼻子。
皮皮想起“我的小桃子”。嘀嗒听见什么说什么！“秘密只告诉信得过的人！不告诉嘀嗒！”
离嘀嗒远远的，皮皮悄悄问：“你们能保密吗？”绵羊太太去请奶奶修铃铛，喳喳放哨。
“嘀嗒，你只管杯子！”奶奶探头来问：“嘀嗒，皮皮在忙什么呀？”“杯子。”“杯子？真没意思！”
星期六，绵羊太太的铃铛坏了。“喳喳，皮皮在忙什么呀？”“嗯！嗯！”“好样的，喳喳！”皮皮偷笑。
“惊喜！”奶奶笑了：“我也有个秘密。嘘！别当着皮皮说！”她拿出一条小红围裙。“给我的？”
围裙挂在嘀嗒的钥匙旁。“晚安，嘀嗒！”皮皮说。“嘘。别当着嘀嗒说。”嘀嗒说。大家都笑了。
